the KINGDOM OF ARTHUR series

A retelling of the Arthur legend, told in six parts. I was inspired, in part, by the six Lord of the Rings books, and how the last four tell their stories from two different venues (in books four and five we follow Frodo and the ring, in books three and six we follow Aragorn and the remnants of the Fellowship). I too wanted to tell a story told from different perspectives, although unlike in LOTR, in the Kingdom of Arthur books only the characters change, not the setting; the reader may follow Arthur as he makes his way through an area in one book, only to later revisit the previous story in the next book, seeing things through the eyes of the antagonist. It’s a unique way of telling the tale, I think, and one that allows the reader to understand not only the hero’s point of view, but his mortal enemy’s as well.

the FARCICAL ZOMBIE trilogy

A trio of tales, loosely linked, each sharing two common elements: There are zombies, and none of it is taken very seriously. The first story is set in 2083, the second in 1912, and the third travels through time from 1939 to 1888…

GZA tells of a nursing home overrun by a mindless horde of flesh-eating monsters. There are many zombie stories out there, set in shopping malls, small towns, big cities, etc. I’ve never read one in a nursing home, where the heroes tasked with ridding themselves of the menace are also forced to contend with back spasms, trouble hearing, and trick hips.

TITANIC PANIC tells of zombie outbreak on the legendary ill-fated vessel. The story centers around the young assistant of an obsessed scientist, who is developing a serum to prevent and even reverse aging. Little does he know, his serum has horrible side-effects. There’s also the heiress of a Maine-based peanut butter empire, being wooed by an obnoxious (and shady) English Duke. The fates of both, and others, come to a head amidst a zombie outbreak and the most infamous sinking in history.

A GERMAN SCIENTIST ON SAMUEL CLEMENS’ FRONT PORCH is the final book in the series. It’s about Albert Einstein building a time machine to go back and visit his doppelganger, Mark Twain. Little does he know that Nazi scientists have been developing their own time travel tech, as well as building a zombie army from deceased WWI soldiers. Now Twain and Einstein have to work together to stop the Nazis from taking over the world fifty years earlier than expected!

the DISHONORED anthology

This anthology of books is set in a fictional, fantastical, version of medieval Japan. Shoto is an island-chain land of magic and heroism, with a code of honor that dominants society. Here, honor can be stolen by wicked men and the wrongs they perpetrate, and honor only returned when and if justice is served. If your honor is taken and is not (or cannot be) reclaimed, the victim is branded a pariah and outcasted from society. The only place where such are welcome is the small island of Humao, the Isle of the Dishonored.

To be dishonored in Shoto was the greatest injustice and required swift retaliation. A crime as small as being spat on demanded satisfaction be done, because such actions brought shame, not to the perpetrator, but to the victim, and until the crime was rectified, the victim was forced to live with some measure of his honor deprived of him. The only way to get that honor back was to set things right with the one who dishonored him, either by drawing an apology from the perpetrator or by returning the dishonor in kind through justice and vengeance.

Because of this, being dishonored was akin to carrying a plague, and people steered clear of such, not wanting to bring dishonor to themselves by treating someone as an equal who had been removed from society. If there was no way to set things right, the dishonored was outcasted, forced to live with others who were likewise dishonored.

With that as a backdrop, the DISHONORED series is an anthology of tales, with no necessary order to them (other than one book which is a trilogy of stories), set in different parts of the land, in different eras of time. Some stories are small, personal affairs, dealing with vengeance and justice on an individual level. Others are more epic, with tremendous stakes or spanning vast distances or years. Some are war stories, as the land of Shoto was frequently involved with conflicts within their six major kingdoms and against each other, and still others are more akin to the Samurai movies that I love, from the likes of Kurosawa and Inagaki. No two books are alike and I’m excited to dig into this world and bring these stories to life.

The first book is THE CURSE OF THE DEMON PRINCE: Seven companions (a wizard, a shinobi, two warriors loyal to opposing kings, a peasant that is more than he seems, and a pair of boys from Humao) risk death as they trek across the land of Shoto, seeking a sacred altar. There they hope to perform a sacrifice that will stop a Celtic demon from destroying their island home. As they travel, six of them wrestle with the secret truth they carry with them…and the seventh, unbeknownst to him, is the sacrifice.

The second, third, and fourth books are now completed as well, being THE DAUGHTER OF HACHIMAN (a romance-turned-revenge story), THE WAR OF THE SAKURA (a trilogy of smaller stories about an infamous King), and THE SONG OF REDEMPTION (a pirate-themed sea-faring adventure). More are on the way!

A CENTURY OF WIND, FIRE, AND WATER

Twelve books spanning a hundred years of war, betrayal, political machinations, magic, mysticism, heroism and villainy. Enter a world that has known the magical “power of the wind” for so long it’s woven itself into every aspect of society, technology, and culture; where the magic of fire and water has been hidden away only now to emerge, throwing the world into conflict. The story begins with a focus on an old, stoic, peace-seeking “Wind Monk” and his younger, more thrill-seeking former-disciple. Together they discover a young girl with a power that was long-thought extinct, and come face to face with an enemy the world thought was long-dead. The first three books in the series—entitled The Hand in the Shadows, Flames of War, and Ashes in the Wind—are done, and more are on the way!

MISCELLANEOUS BOOKS

EL DORADO - Inspired by the Count of Monte Cristo, EL DORADO tells the story of a southern American falsely accused, wrongfully convicted, and harshly imprisoned. An oil discovery in Confederate Arkansas promised to make Edward Danvers one of the wealthiest men in the South. Instead, he is framed for treason, arrested, and after a sham of a trial, is sentenced to die in a Confederate Prison in Virginia. In prison, Edward meets a man named Abe Farrow, an elderly veteran of the War of 1812, who knows of a city filled with riches, hidden deep within the Andes Mountains of Colombia. Too old to escape and claim the gold for himself, he tells his secrets to Danvers, who pledges to break out of prison, find the fortune, and hunt down the conspirators who plotted to destroy him…

A CHRISTMAS CAROL - Hard-hearted miser, Ebenezer Scrooge, is haunted by a litany of terrifying apparitions, each bent on redeeming the old man's soul before Christmas Day is come. Charles Dickens' seminal holiday masterpiece has delighted readers for generations, but over the years many of its words and phrases have become antiquated to modern readers. The text in this edition has been altered slightly to accommodate those who might not be familiar with some of the original author's mid-1800s terminology. In addition are fifteen new illustrations to accompany the timeless tale, as well as the original unaltered text, preserved in its mid-1800s state. This is the definitive edition of A Christmas Carol, able to be absorbed by readers young and old!

THE WILDEST TOWN IN THE WEST - The town of Helena, Nevada had once been a booming site for gold rushers looking to rest on their way to the Pacific Coast. That was fifty years ago, however, and now Helena is a town on its last legs. No one visits, no one settles, and no one shops, despite the train station and tracks that run right through the heart of their community. Everything changes, however, when out of work Broadway actor Wendell Lodge visits, looking to start a new life. Recruited to bring a little excitement to their sleepy village, Lodge brings a taste of the theatrical to Helena, marketing it to travelers as the last "wild" town in the West, where the gunfights are frequent, the sheriff is missing, and the thrill of adventure never rests. The only problem is convincing the people who actually visit---including Teddy Roosevelt himself---that it's not all just an act...

ELVIS: MAN, MUSIC, MOVIES, MYTH - From the pink of the 50's, the black of the 60's, and the white of the 70's, there's never been another like the king of rock and roll. Relive Elvis' life and career, from his unbelievable highs to his disappointing lows. Elvis: The music, the movies, the myth explores the great American success story, and ultimate celebrity tragedy.

SHORTS - Stories of a few thousand words, told in the vein of the classic tales of past generations. Greats like Asimov, Bradbury, Ellison, and Heinlein authored many of the best short-stories ever put to print. My works don’t compare to theirs (few do) but they are inspired by them. My shorts vary wildly in tone and setting but they are all quick reads, high-concept in idea, and end with some kind of a moral or twist; on that note, inspiration came from one of the greatest science-fiction minds, Rod Serling, whose Twilight Zone episodes almost always had a finale that smacked you in the face.

More books are always in the works,
so keep an eye out here for the next release!
