No novel this year
For the first time since 2016, I will not be publishing a novel this year. I got about halfway through Rapture of Twilight, looked over the work as it was progressing, and made the decision to cancel the project. The idea is there, in fact the idea being so good is why I’m making this change. I could not bring myself to continue with a lackluster product, forever diminishing what was a great story idea. So, instead of just trying to salvage it and fix it in second drafts and rewrites, I am going back to the drawing board. I am revisiting the initial three paragraph idea I started with, and will create a better chapter-by-chapter outline from it.
I’ve noticed lately that my output and the speed with which I’ve written has contributed to my stories not living up to their potential. More preliminary time is needed. More time outlining, plotting, revising, and perfecting the story is needed before I begin the actual writing. At the same time, my work schedule has changed, things at home are busy as we finish moving houses. Too much is happening and something had to give.
So, next year I will try again. That means the other books I had planned will be delayed, though I don’t think it’s impossible that I will simply shelve Rapture for a later date, and instead concentrate on getting the next story (Generations) as good as it can be.
In the meantime, I will try to get Rapture’s story written as a short. In that case, I’ll turn it into a freebie, maybe for next month.
Commentaries continue to be written on schedule. Numbers (“Testing God”) will be done by the end of March.
